Oral Presentation Guidelines
Information Specific to Oral Presenters
Time: Saturday morning and afternoon. See the Proceedings for the specific time of your presentation.
Length: Presentations are 15 to 20 minutes. The presentation time is typically 12 - 15 minutes followed by 3 to 5 minutes for questions. Please keep your presentation within the expected time limit.
Etiquette: IAS is Iowa's general science organization. We encourage interdisciplinary interaction. Therefore, if you need to enter or leave the room, please wait until a speaker finishes their presentation or do so as quietly as possible.
SUPPLIED AUDIOVISUAL EQUIPMENT: The room you are presenting in is equipped with a screen and projector connected to a computer running Windows operating system with PowerPoint. If you plan to present using PowerPoint, you must bring your presentation saved on a USB drive. Please scan your USB drive for viruses. If you need other A/V equipment please contact the IAS office for assistance at 319-273-2021.
Poster Presentation Guidelines

Your poster will be displayed during the IAS Senior Poster Session, Friday, 4:30-5:45. One of the presenting authors should be available for questions throughout this session. Registration is required to attend the poster session.
Important! Abstract and Registration Fees
for Oral and Poster Presenters
When an abstract is accepted primary presenters receive instructions regarding payment of the abstract fee.
Note the following:
The abstract fee includes registration for the primary presenter. It is a reduced fee.
The abstract fee must be paid by the Abstract Fee Deadline* or the presentation will be cancelled and the abstract will not appear in the Academy Proceedings or the Journal of the Iowa Academy of Science.
- Primary presenters are responsible for informing secondary authors to register for the conference. See secondary author instructions below.
- If you have any questions call the Iowa Academy of Science office at (319) 273-2021.
*The Abstract Fee Deadline is sooner than the Advance Registration Deadline! The fee must be paid by the deadline in order for the Academy to prepare the abstracts for publication.
Secondary Author Registration
Secondary authors pay their normal registration fee.
To receive a reduced registration fee please pay by the Advance Registration Deadline.
Non-members may join the Academy and then register as a member to receive the lowest registration rate. By joining you are supporting the Academy and the opportunity for Iowa students and faculty to participate in a professional science conference close to home.
If you have any questions, you may call the Iowa Academy of Science office at (319) 273-2021.
The Advance Program Guide is available at http://www.scienceiniowa.org/annual-mtg-directions and includes directions, campus map, lodging information and a schedule of Annual Meeting events.
