A Citizen Scientist is someone who has turned their interest in an area of science research into a life-long hobby. Social networking, hand-held devices and other advances in technology have made it easier than ever to participate in citizen science projects. Advances in technology have also increased the need for citizen scientists because our ability to collect and store vast amounts of information has exceeded our ability to analyze and make sense of of so much data. Remote sensing also makes it possible for a researcher to be very far away from his or her subject but local knowledge can throw a whole new light on the data. This page is all about opportunities for citizen scientists. Any one of these opportunities could become a class project or become a hobby that you do on your own.
