Medical and Lab Biology - health, medical, and human biology
Play a 3-D video game (sort of like a mix between tetris and a 3-D coloring book) and help scientists map the neurons in the human eye. Scientists have imaged all of the neurons in the retina, but now comes the task of making sense of the images. The neurons are so closely packed and there are so many that the computer program designed to identify each neuron makes lots of mistakes. Perhaps ironically, the human eye can do this task better that the computer! When you join EyeWire you use your own eyes to help map the imaged eye.
Fold it is a game that you download and play. The objective of the game is to successfully fold protein chains. The scientists who developed the game was studying how people solve the protain chain folding problems to learn strategies to teach computers to be able to solve the problems as well as humans.
